Resurrection's Wake
At long last, an update...
I thought this would be easier
I hoped that you'd be different
I saw a different heartbreak
One so reminiscent
Of life before grace came
Of dreams before great hope
I expected other things
Things which prayers controlled
But even when we beg
You often choose to take
And we're supposed to settle for
Cliches of all your glory
And even when we kneel
You might neglect to heal
And leave us with a hurt
That only leaves us mourning
I often come and whine
About ideas of fair
How some are left behind
While some are taken where
None of us have ever been
A place our eyes can't see
Some just say they're better there
But they do not know grief
And sometimes when we beg
You often choose to take
And leave us numb and wondering
If you really love
And even when we kneel
You often cease to heal
You leave us cold and broken
Until we say "Enough"
Your own Father lost a son
But He knew in three days
A light would shine so brightly
There'd be an empty grave
But what about the rest of us
In resurrection's wake
Loss haunts us like a melody
That cannot be replayed
And even when we beg
You often choose to take
And we're supposed to settle for
Cliches of all your glory
And sometimes when we kneel
You often cease to heal
And leave us with a hurt
That only leaves us mourning
I thought this would be easier
I hoped that you'd be different
